Praying Scripture
Do you sometimes find that prayer is boring because you say the same things over and over?Often the problem of boredom in prayer is not repetition, but rather method.
There is a simple solution—pray the Bible.
Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is living and active….” Because God’s word is living, it infuses life into our prayers. And because God’s word is active, it injects energy and power into our prayers.
When you pray a Scripture text, you're taking Spirit-inspired words, circulating them through your own heart and mind, and then praying them back to God. The result: your prayers are more confident, bold, powerful, fresh, rich, and meaningful.
Benefits Of Praying Scripture
1) Your prayers line up with God's word and will.
“And this is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us, and if we know that he hears us.And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask-- we know that we have what we asked of him.” (I John 5:14-15)
2) Your faith in God is quickened and strengthened.
“Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Romans. 10:17)
3) Your mind is being trained and renewed and less prone to wandering or boredom.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
4) Your prayers release God’s power to provide deliverance, victory, and freedom in the spiritual realm, as you boldly pray His word.
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
5) Your spiritual weapons come into play when you pray Scripture.
“Take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” (Ephesians 6:17-18)
6) Your conversation with God grows deeper as He speaks to you through the Bible and you speak back to Him in prayer.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
7) Your sensitivity to God’s Word grows and guides you into praying for new things.
“My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it.” (Isaiah 55:11)
8) Your heart will find encouragement and grace, no matter the circumstance, as you receive and believe the promises of God.
“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
